Lorraine Sherman for Judge

Lorraine H. Sherman

Lorraine H. Sherman Who is Lorraine Sherman?
A Mother of 4?
A Grandmother of 6?
A small business owner in Alachua County?
An attorney in her 10th year of private practice?
A mediator that works to resolves disputes?
She is more than all of these. She is the candidate with the integrity, the honesty, and the experience to be our next County Court Judge here in Alachua County.

Lorraine came from humble beginnings.  She was a homemaker and attended school part time. She worked hard and graduated from the University of Florida with honors, after graduating from Santa Fe Community College. But that was not enough for Lorraine. She went on to law school here at the University of Florida.

After graduating from law school with honors she opened her law office here in Alachua County where she practices family law and criminal law. She is in her 10th year of private practice here in our community. She not only is a lawyer, she is a Certified Mediator that works to resolve disputes and keep parties out of court.

She works to make the community that she lives in a better place. When she lived in Texas she founded and directed the Food for Life Meals on Wheels Program. Here in Alachua County she works to keep children from becoming criminals by volunteering for the Teen Court Program.

Lorraine's many years experience as a family attorney in private practice makes her the most qualified candidate for County Judge. Lorraine has a reputation for being fair and honest and handles cases with the utmost integrity. Lorraine has never represented me in a case, but I have faced her as opposing counsel and because of the fairness to effect amicable settlements for both parties, I have referred many clients to her. I believe the experience Lorraine has as a Family Law Mediator, coupled with her high morals and values she personally places on the family unit, makes her uniquely qualified as our next County Judge. She is proven herself to be of high moral character and is truly committed to the fair resolution of cases as an attorney and I am confident that same ethic will be carried over in her capacity as the next County Judge. - Lisa D. From Betty W. Taylor

About ten years ago as Lorraine H. Sherman was approaching graduation from the U. F. College of Law, she came by my office with a library book in her hand. Upon opening the book, she described her enthusiasm about the book she had read for a class and the paper being written based on the book’s contents; however, in the process she had scribbled notes on pages throughout the book. With apologies she asked what she could do to remedy the situation. My response was to purchase another copy of the book as a replacement for the Law Library, which she did.

Her honesty was truly appreciated and remembered to this day.

From Gary Lee

When I met Ms. Sherman, I was down on my luck and desperate for not just a lawyer, but someone I could trust with my family. She not only took the time for my case, but she really listened and cared about my families’ future. Having a heavy case load, Lorrie started work at once and worked on the case even if it meant working after hours and on weekends. I have never seen anyone put their personal life on hold, but Lorrie did just that while working on my case.

This says a lot, not just about her dedication to her work, but about her character and compassion for the end result of the case — making sure it worked for the family and not against us.

Being a mother and grandmother has given Lorrie the type of experience you want in someone making decisions about your family. Her honesty comes from the heart. Like any parent, we all want a solution that can put our lives and our children’s lives back on track, and Lorrie gets the job done.

I take a lot of pride in the people I call my friends and they are all treated like family. Without hesitation, I call Lorrie Sherman more than just a friend, but family.

It is hard to find honest people in this day and age, much less anyone you would trust with your family, but I trust Lorrie. She has to be one of the most honest people I know and that is why I am supporting her in this Judicial campaign. - Gary Lee

From Holly

Throughout my life, my mother has been the very foundation that has held our family together.  She has been the person to whom I have continously sought advice, opinions, and from time to time, reality checks. As I raise my own sons, I have often reflected back to my childhood in an effort to instill the same characteristics that I have learned through my mother. Everything honest, fair, and wise I have inherited from her has simply been by following her example. I have yet to meet a more honorable person. "One of the most valuable things my mother has taught me is that you cannot control another persons' behavior - you can only control your own behavior." By living this way, disappointments are a rare thing, as I am always seeing new ways that I can expand my own personal growth, as well as the growth of my children.

I wholeheartedly believe that my mother would be an asset to the justice system.  Everything she has done in her life, whether it be raising 4 children, running a Food For Life program, surviving law school, or maintaining a thriving law practice, she has done with passion and integrity.  I am extremely proud of my mother and all that she stands for. Vote for Lorraine Sherman!!!!

It has been my privilege to work as Lorraine Sherman's legal assistant for the last four years.  Because Ms. Sherman's law office is in her home, I have come to know all sides of this unique person.  As a mother, grandmother, and friend, she is loving and caring.  Her home is always open and welcoming to anyone.  She is a genuine person whose concern for other people is apparent.

As her legal assistant, I have had the opportunity to observe the professional side of Lorraine Sherman.  In this role, she is amazing.  Her knowledge of the law is tremendous and she continues to study and review the law as she prepares for each and every case.  She is a great communicator - she speaks and writes effectively, but more importantly, she is an active listener.  Whether working with a client, other lawyers, witnesses or judges, Ms. Sherman absorbs every word and nuance.  She is attentive to every detail of a case and her commitment to justice is what drives her.

Lorraine became a Certified Mediator because of her desire to find the best solution for all parties.  She has the ability to take in information and facilitate compromise.  She knows the law and she knows people.  With her experience and communication skills, she is able to bring difficult cases to a quick resolution.

I am supporting Lorraine Sherman for County Judge - not because I work for her but because I believe in her.  She has the knowledge, skill and ability to do the job.  Her ethics are uncompromising.  She is honest, dedicated and responsible.  Lorraine Sherman will bring these attributes to the bench and she will serve the public with the highest level of integrity and dedication. - Vikki Padgett

From Carrie

I met Mrs. Sherman in 2000 when she represented by ex husband during my divorce and custody case.  What I remembered about her was that she was very fair and professional.  What I loved about her was that she was concerned about our child.  When my new husband needed an attorney to represent him in his custody case,  we called Mrs. Sherman.  She had made such a good impression on me years ago, and we were not disappointed this time.  Mrs. Sherman is not only a great attorney, but she is a great friend, mother, and grandmother, she puts families first.  I believe Mrs. Sherman will make an amazing judge.  Carrie Grant

From Barbara Ferguson

I know Lorraine Sherman as a professional attorney and also as a friend.

Professionally, Lorraine is a down to earth realist, matter of fact, no-nonsense attorney wiht the utmost integrity. She is a high energy lady who is also highly organized and efficient.

Lorraine handled my divorce.  On our first meeting she told directly that she was not the kind of lawyer who would drag out proceedings with unnecessary court appearances just for the purpose of revenge because it would increase attorney's fees. My first impression was that she had a noble character. My first impression turned out to be correct.

During the course of the divorce, I often asked her for advise and she let me know what was fair to the letter of the law.  She was never overly optimistic or pessimistic. She was just honest with me based on her life experience and professional training and legal experience. At the end of the case,  she actually refunded $1,100 of my retainer, which is apparently unheard of in the law profession.

I greatly appreciate Lorraine and her strong character; I am honored that Lorraine and I have become friends;  and I support her candidacy for Judge because I know she is the best choice. - Barbara Ferguson
